ACU plans to publish first student newspaper on Apple’s iPad

Filed under: Optimist — hleiphart @ 4:30 pm

BusinessWire – Abilene Christian University’s student-run media staff announces its commitment to produce the first paper of its kind for Apple’s iPad. Dr. Cheryl Bacon, chair of ACU’s Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, says students and faculty already are working to achieve this goal.

“This is yet another opportunity for our students to make use of a cutting-edge delivery system — the third version of mobile media delivery we have pioneered,” Bacon says. She cites her department’s track record: dissemination of The Optimist student newspaper via iPhone in the fall of 2007; adoption of an updated application in the fall of 2008; and now, ACU’s preparation for delivery of The Optimist on the iPad this spring.  Read the rest of the article from Forbes.com.

ACU also was mentioned in a NBC Nightly News video clip, around 1:52.

Filed under: Optimist — hleiphart @ 6:59 pm

The Wildcats lost their last regular season game yesterday to Midwestern State, but thankfully still has a spot in the playoffs. I was assigned to take photos at the NCAA D2 cross country championship tournament Saturday morning, so the Optimist chief photographer Jozie Sands took the photos this week instead. You can check them out here and the story here.

The cross country photos and digital portrait shots should be up in the next few days, I promise. 🙂

😦 The rest of the photos are located here, story here.
From acusports.com: “ACU hadn’t lost a game in the regular season since a 41-31 loss to the Buffs on Oct. 20, 2007.  West Texas A&M, in fact, has beaten ACU in Abilene in each of its last three regular-season trips to Abilene, and all three of them were on ACU Homecoming.”

Above: Keep an eye on this red-shirt freshman quarterback… they say Mitchell Gale is going places. Gale made his first collegiate start under center during Saturday’s game, threw for 300 yards and completed 20 out of 28 passes while tossing three touchdown passes.
